Fairfield County is bursting with places you'll scream for ice cream. Here are five to try.
Gelatissimo Artisan Gelato, 26 Forest St., New Canaan: "I've been in business for 14 years," said friendly owner Nuccia Mazzonetto who "grew up in Milano, Italy, and had a dream to open a gelateria," she told Daily Voice in a phone interview.
The gelato is made from scratch, based on imported Italian gelato paste, says the store's website.
Every day there are an average of 18 to 22 flavors. These include cioccolata, to stracciatella (vanilla chocolate chip), pistachio, and hazelnut, and there is a variety of non-dairy flavors.
Milkcraft, 215 Post Road, Fairfield: Deborah Samilenko on Facebook posted this a week ago: "My first time here ... and it was a great experience watching them make the ice cream and bubble waffle cone! One scoop of this rich, creamy ice cream is really large so keep that in mind when ordering. It's a bit pricey but worth it! I will be back!"
Elizabeth Mcdowell posted in her Facebook review, "Love the ice cream."
Ferris Acres Creamery, 144 Sugar St., Newtown: This is a historic family farm in town.
Carolyn Mueller said it's a "summer must-do," talking to Daily Voice in a Facebook conversation.
She said, "I brought my dad there a week ago and even on a weekday afternoon, there was an impressive crowd of Ferris fans lined up for their favorite flavors."
On June 4, Stephanie Mullen on Ferris Acres' Facebook page posted, "I loved this ice cream stop. My family is new to the area and we’re so impressed with the ice cream, service and the friendly cows."
Dubl Twister, 164 White St., Danbury: Classic, family-owned parlor whipping up artisanal ice cream in a large variety of creative flavors, according to the shop's website.
Sweet Ashley's, 248 East Ave., Norwalk: The store close to the beach assures on its website, there will be "Thirty flavors at all times" among a rotation of new flavors.
James O. of Greenwich on Yelp said, "What can I say? Just your good, old fashioned, ice cream joint. The flavors are great, the people are friendly."
Dev. P. of Danbury, also on Yelp posted in May, "...great spot! Delicious would recommend! The ice cream tasted way better than most places I've been to. Nice, homemade vibe, will come back."
